Did you know there really aren’t that many songs about prom? At least not that I could find on my Google Search.

Anyways: Saturday night was THE PROM which was the birthday celebration marking my mother’s 50th birthday. Mom never went to her own prom when she was seventeen, and over the years she has helped people (Me, Krista and finally Vanessa) get ready for nine seperate proms. So we decorated the house, we downloaded 71 of the most popular songs from 1974, 1975 and 1976 and pulled on our favorite prom dresses.

I actually had trouble deciding on what dress to wear. It was a toss up between the prom dress I wore to my original prom, and a dress I bought and never had a chance to wear. However, in the end, I definitely think I made the right decision.

All around, it was a really fun night, and it really did kind of feel like we were all going to prom. (Almost) everyone dressed up, and there was dancing and punch and laughing and memories. And most of all, Mom loved it. She was happy. It was exactly how she was hoping the night would go, and that was really important. And I think it shows that you’re never too old to go to your prom, no matter how many decades later it is.

Andrew

I don’t have much to write about today. I’m sick, with not only a stomach thing but my season allergies have started up. Bad. And because of my stomach thing, my allergy pills aren’t really working. So I’m red faced, exhausted and so not in the mood for food. However, today Andrew is back from Montreal. Boy, did I ever miss that boy. And being the sweetie he is, he brought me back a little present. He has very much fallen in love with the city, and seriously wants to take me to visit it with him. Oh, how I wish.

So when I dragged myself downstairs for our reunion, what was sitting on the table in front of that dear boy. Well, this:

Andrew knows Besty is by far my favorite designer. I just adore her quirky sense of fashion. My Betsyville flats are just gorgeous (and so was paying $5 for them!) According to Andrew, walking past the store he saw a white dress with cherries decorating it in the window and said “I’m buying that for Shannon”. However, the dress was $400. He wasn’t expecting the price of things. However, he did manage to find something for me.

The most adorable underwear ever! Seriously, aren’t those just the cutest. I adore them. I have a serious low affair with bras and panties, and these are right up there with my favorites. Andrew was scared I might not like them, but the boy has very good taste when it comes to picking out stuff for me. You should see the purse he got me for my graduation present. Another day, I promise.

I also picked up a new bikini yesterday for this summer. Like underwear, I love buying bikinis. I buy a new one pretty much every summer. Since I used to spend every day in a bikini once upon a time, I like to have options. I’ve been coveting this bikini for months now, and finally (with graduation money) decided to get it. It’s cool because the top is reversible, can be worn either as a bandeau or around the neck, and it’s also an extra small. Being petite in both the chest (32A) and the hips (33 inches around), finding a bikini small enough not to fall off of me is important.

I absolutely can’t wait to be able to put this on and go swimming already! Today was definitely warm enough for a jump into the lake, but I was under the weather. Thankfully we have an entire summer of lake and beach adventures coming our way.

Now I’m going to go off, and try and make myself something to eat and drink about six more liters of water. Tomorrow is “THE PROM”. Don’t worry, there will definitely be far too many pictures to come. What can I say, my family loves a good theme.

With such beautiful sunshine and warm weather there is nothing better than an adventure around town. Since Shane and I haven’t had a coffee date since school ended, we decided there was no time like the present for a day out and about on the town, fueled by coffee. Andrew has been away in Montreal all week for an engineering convention, so I’ve had to keep myself occupied. Monday night I had a girls night, which I haven’t done since school ended. I went out last night, and tonight I may also have plans with girls. It’s nice being able to get out of the house, to spend time with friends. To do things other than clean my room and fall asleep by ten (and watch an entire television series in only a short while.) That’s why summer has always been my favorite season–full of stories and adventure and iced coffee.

And no adventure in Halifax is complete without taking too many pictures.

I really didn’t mean to fall off the face of the planet, but the previous weekend (and my graduation) made things a little crazy. I also fell off the 30 days of fashion wagon, something which I haven’t yet jumped back on. With family, and friends, and food and a couple down days, I just didn’t have the energy to write or get all dressed up. Oh, and the rain sucks.

But the sun seems to finally be coming back out, and the chilly May days seem to be getting a little warmer. Combine that with a house free of company and I almost have the will to get excited about clothes again. All I need are a couple summer adventures. And this upcoming weekend should provide plenty of fun. Prom dresses, best friend, sunshine-y days and cheap wine? Oh yes, this is going to be one heck of a weekend.

Now if only I could figure out which prom dress to wear I would be all set. That’s the problem with $7 cocktail dresses from Frenchy’s (and having gone to three seperate proms.) So many dresses, and not enough special occasions.

My graduation rehearsal outfit:

Red and black checkered button-up blouse. Black tanktop. Short jean skirt. Black peeptoe pumps (not pictured).

XXXL Blue Ruffle shirt. Blue skinny foxy jeans. Sparrow necklace. Red oversized sunglasses (not pitured).

Unfortunately I wasn’t feeling the greatest yesterday for Andrew’s birthday (wasn’t even up to making him gluten-free cupcakes!) But I wanted to look nicer than wearing just pajamas. Especially since I ended up staying for supper at Andrew’s place. They kept the stirfry meat free so that I could enjoy. And his aunt brought over a cake for him, and even wrote on the cake: “this is not Shanna friendly“. It’s nice that his family thinks about me in situations like that. We ended up playing Scene It! a bunch last night and his Mom  beat me! It’s the first time I’ve ever lost the game. Darn, I love that game. Especially because it gets really competitive… Andrew gets really competitive. It’s like watching him play video games. There is jumping and screaming and beating his chest. It’s adorable.

Now today is my Graduation rehurshal. I’m still trying to decide what to wear today since it’s going to be fairly warm today. I still can’t believe tomorrow is my graduation. GRADUATION. FROM UNIVERSITY.

And the panic begins again.

First off: I’m wishing a happy, happy birthday to my dear Andrew who is 20 today.

Equally exciting today is that my friend Ev’yan at Apricot Tea is celebrating the launch of her advice column Ask Apricot. I’ve known Ev’yan for about six years, and let me tell you as a friend she’s always been great for giving advice, so I’m almost as excited about the launch of her advice column as she is!

And, for the launch of her column, she’s holding  a give away: someone will win the book Style Statement and an item of their choice from her store: Apricot’s Closet. So you should definitely make your way over to Ask Apricot and check the launch out. You know I’ll be there. =)

I’ll post pictures of whatever outfit I chose later today. I’m still trying to figure out what to wear. (And by that, I mean, I’m still in bed.)

05.11

05.11b

Black Shrunken Blazer. White Wal-mart Shirt. Bluenotes boot cut blue jeans. Aquamarine dollar star necklace. Black peeptoe wedges (not pictured).

Can you tell how much I adore my wedges. Even though I haven’t really shown them much, I wear them constantly. Honestly, they are more comfortable to me then even wearing flats, plus they make my legs look long and toned. (They can be seen here.)

Day one of week crazy was getting my hair trimmed so as to not look bad in pictures. I didn’t really feel like getting too crazy, plus the weather just isn’t going the way I want it to. It’s kind of depressing. However not depressing was getting my hair done. One of my good friends, Alyssa, is my hair dresser. (She also now does my Mom and Sister’s hair as well). She’s been dying to get her hands on my hair forever, and it has looked impeccable since that very day. We both agree my hair looks much better shorter. Now let’s just hope I can mimic this style well enough Thursday morning when I’m trying to look good for (a) graduation pictures and (b) graduation.

And if worse comes to worse, Alyssa says I can call her that morning and she’ll do an emergency house call. Considering how stressed and freaked out I was over HAIR before both my high school prom and graduation, that is entirely possible.

05.10

Red Silk blouse. Black Joe tank top. Skinny Foxy jeans. Black wedge peep toes.

I’m going to preface this by saying that originally I planned on putting more effort into my outfit. But at 11 o’clock, I was still taking a bath when I was told that we would be leaving at 11:15. So I kind of had to rush to put something together. And then I thought about changing into my red dress for when we went out to dinner, but changed my mind when it started storming. If only the weather was more cooperative, I could come up with more exciting outfits. Never the less, I thought this was a cute outfit to wear for my mother’s day activities which included: seeing Star Trek for the second time (I swear, that movie is like crack. The second you leave you want to see it again). Visiting a Charity house which my parents buy tickets for every year. And finally visiting the Hamachi Grill and Sushi House for our yearly Mother’s Day dinner. I love going there because there are so many options, and also they are great at understanding the gluten-free thing; they even have a great gluten-free menu.

This is a pretty busy week at our house. It starts with a trim tomorrow, to keep my short hair looking short and baking either cupcakes or a cake, with Andrew’s 20th birthday on Tuesday, then Wednesday is my graduation rehearsal, and Thursday morning I’m getting my graduation pictures taken in the morning, before heading to Halifax for around noon to get ready for graduation. (I’m not even starting to think about that until I absolutely have to). Also Thursday night is our Graduation dinner at The Wooden Monkey with the whole family, which I am very excited about. Friday is the graduation party with Friends and Family, and then on Saturday we’re having my Mom’s family birthday celebrations with everyone: Grandparents, Aunt & Uncle, sister and her fiance, Family friends and Andrew. We’re having a huge Trivial Pursuit competition. It’s going to be epic.

Yep that is something everyday this week.

I’ll try and keep up with the blog posts as much as possible, mostly because–like baking–writing is something which keeps me sane. And although I know it won’t be on purpose, this attention I’ll get this week because of my graduation will be very unnerving. So while they may be sporatic posts, I’m going to try and post non-the-less. And keep the new and different (and hopefully more creative) outfits a coming. One warm day, that’s all I ask for. One warm day.

Black Suzy Shear ruched tank top. Funky Parasuco jeans (from when I was seventeen).

Had about five minutes to get dressed this morning before I had to leave, so I went with these Parasuco jeans which I have always adored (even thogh they are pretty baggy). This was my shopping-for-a-mother’s-day-and-birthday-present outfit. I’ve been living in jeans for a while now, but blame it on the constant rainy days. However, we’re going out for sushi tomorrow night for mother’s day so I plan on dressing up.
